Tourism governance is not marketing administration. It is control over the visitor narrative, the public tourism dollars, hospitality demand, the data, and destination strategy. The governance layer is changing — quietly.
As of June 2026 · public intelligence, not legal or investment advice.

In December 2025, Collier County's Tourist Development Council recommended converting the county's visitor- and convention-marketing function from a county department into a private nonprofit organization. The county commission's decision is still pending — so a true shift in who controls tourism marketing is a watchlist, not a settled fact. The body in question directs how the county's tourist development tax (a lodging tax paid by visitors) is spent on destination marketing.
Who governs tourism marketing shapes premium visitor demand, the season, the data everyone else relies on, and the story that fills rooms and tables. For any operator whose business depends on the quality and timing of demand, the governance shift is worth watching before it settles.
Records-only. The recommendation and structure are sourced to the Tourist Development Council's public record and county materials; the conversion remains a pending item (watchlist). Full source list available on request.
